The Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF)has been fighting the Philippines goverment in Mindanao, the eastern-most island of the country, for decades in a conflict born of ethnic, clan and religious complexity.

A four-year-old ceasefire has been in place, but is starting to quiver following July’s ambush of the marines by Muslim fighters.

In the days leading up to the storming of the Red Mosque, Al Jazeera’s Rageh Omaar gained exclusive access. He and his team were the last TV crew inside the mosque before the siege began and filmed the last interview with Abdul Rashid Ghazi, one of the mosque’s leaders, before his death.

A profile of the life of Saddam Hussein, as told by the people who knew him.
Saddam Hussein, the former Iraqi president, was executed on December 30, 2006. His death, like his life, was filled with controversy.
In the 1980’s he formed an alliance of sorts with the US and with their support and encouragement, instigated a war with Iran.

But that alliance was short lived and in 1990, after Saddam’s invasion of Kuwait, his powerful American friends deserted and turned against him.

The US launched attacks against him, which over the course of 15 years and two wars, led to his downfall and the destruction of Iraq.
